Plans for 2019

Over the next seven months, I'd like to have achieved something more than "I'm not dead yet".  There are no great and lofty aspirations - but definitely things that have been on my todo list for a while and progress has been slow - or non existent.  I'm calling out six objectives for me to aim for:

  • I have a shed in the garden, in a sorry state of repair that requires some significant attention.  I plan to refresh it with new cladding, put in new windows, install some insulation and electricity and use it as a workshop and man cave.

  • In 1999, I built a climbing frame for my kids.  Twenty years later, it's unsafe and rot has impacted some of the walkways.  I'd like to see if I can repair it.

  • My garden has enormous scope for improvement.  I want to make it more productive.  Currently there are no vegetables planted.  The main plot is a mass of stinging nettles.  The greenhouse is empty.  An oak tree overshadows my orchard and needs severe cutting back.

  • I enjoy walking and I'd like to complete more of the long distance paths and trials which crisscross the UK.  Specifically, I want to walk at least four more of the National Trails before the end of the year and also the Three Castles Path - which I really aught to since it passes so close to my home.

  • My retirement toy was a laser cutter.  I've started playing around with it, making some models for wargames terrain.  I'd like to build on what I've started and see if I can get to the point of actually selling some.

  • With time on my hand, I'd like to travel more - so my target is to ensure that each month will contain at least one weekend (or more) away.  It has to include Linda too, a solo weekend LARPing or walking won't count for this goal.

At the end of the year, I'll give myself a score out of ten for each objective and review how I've done...

  1. Really enjoying reading your blog - very brave. Did you backpack Hadrian's wall? I did it a few years ago but we used a Sherpa service..

    1. Hi Stuart, glad you're finding it interesting :-) I did AirBnB, so carried a disciplined overnight back pack to cover four nights. Probably ended up a little on the smelly side - but since I was walking solo, not too much of an issue.
