An unplanned ad-hoc walk led to an exploration of the coast between Bognor Regis and Brighton on a rainy August day. (

The weather was mostly light rain for the entire day with a couple of patches of sun and of heavy rain. However, this did not detract from what turned out to be an enjoyable (and very flat) walk.
Apart from a few miles between Bognor and Littlehampton the route is developed with buildings overlooking the sea - the majority of which are private dwellings. The beach is shingle with very little sand. I could keep to the shoreline except for Littlehampton and Shoreham where for both I had to head inland to cross the river Arun and river Adur respectively.
With off-route wanderings in both Worthing and Brighton I ended up covering 31.3 miles - roughly the same as my daily milage on the
South Downs Way, however this was a much easier walk being so flat and I could have happily continued further.

Final thoughts: happy to have done the walk, but to be honest, not one I'd rush back to do again as much of it was quite similar - but definitely better than the other options that were suggested to me for that day. And I never knew how many beach huts could be packed in along the south coast!
